In 1927, Lincolnville businessman Frank B. Butler, frustrated by Florida's whites-only beaches, began buying oceanfront land here and opened it as the only beach for miles where African Americans were welcome. By 1964 it had become a focal point of the civil rights movement; today Frank B. Butler County Park still marks the place and tells the story.
